From Canvas to Collaboration: A Boho Art Journey with Paint Bar and Target
Dec 14, 2024
As the world moves closer to realizing the importance of work-life balance, we are also beginning to see how art can enrich our professional lives. The notion that art is just for kids and professional artists is gradually becoming outdated. This is where Paint Bar steps in with pride. We love challenges, and our favorite challenge is helping employees create unique art pieces that can proudly be displayed in their offices.
So, when the Learning and Development Team at Target approached us with such a request, we were thrilled to put our creative minds to work. Our task was to design an art style that aligned perfectly with their mood board while fostering teamwork.
Choosing the right canvas size
To accommodate the 13 employees who wanted to paint together on one large canvas, we chose a 4ft x 6ft stretched canvas. It was long enough to let multiple people work simultaneously without making the two ends feel disconnected.
Selecting a general theme
This activity was intended to encourage collaboration and synergy while still respecting individual expression. Through a group consensus, the Boho Art theme was chosen for its free-spirited and inclusive nature.
The Boho art form celebrates individual expression, whether through colors, patterns, or textures. It doesn’t discriminate or confine creativity. Because the cornerstone of this style is freedom, we avoided giving step-by-step instructions. Instead, we provided a general idea and a unique design for inspiration that the team could use as a loose reference.
Enjoying the process
Our studio provided the perfect backdrop for the creative journey ahead. The artist, affectionately known as the Art Captain, set the tone by introducing the Boho Art style and explaining its key elements.
The first critical decision was choosing the color palette. Under the Art Captain’s guidance, each participant selected 2-3 shades, ensuring harmony and cohesion in the overall design. Once the palette was finalized, the team began creating big shapes and illustrations to form the background.
The signature Boho style came to life through the layering process. The team connected elements with patterns, blending and highlighting where necessary to create a cohesive look. Surprisingly, the process of synergizing everyone’s contributions was the easiest part. Each member had a clear idea of how to connect their individual elements, and the team effortlessly visualized the complete painting.
The Curtain Call
From the unique strokes of each participant to the harmonious color palette, the end result was a vibrant and cohesive jungle-inspired piece filled with natural elements.
